Saturday night we were the host team and the game started off early in the first period with Josh Klein's goal assisted by Kyle McCamon. It was a long period with back and forth play. Brad Quinlan had a great game when he scored in the second and third periods assisted by Spencer Woltz (2) and Tyler Montcalm. In the third period Paul Cote put a nice goal in the net with help from Mike DeVries and Josh Klein and the last goal was set up by Mike Sauve and Spencer Woltz and was awarded to Tyler Montcalm. Stupendous goaltending Tilbury finally got on the board at 11:53, but the Ravens weren't finished yet. At 6:45 Jared skated in and popped one in over the goalie's shoulder, 6-1 with assists to Brett and Dylan. Keeping this hot line on for the next face off was a wise choice as Jared took the puck from the draw, split Midget Major CAW Club 200 duties by Chris Zelko who stood on his head, shot after shot, to please the fans. LaSalle only answered back with one goal. The final score was Essex 5, LaSalle 1. We headed to LaSalle early Sunday night for the second game of the series. LaSalle scored the first and second goals of the game. The tone was set and this worried us slightly. After a stellar performance the night before, LaSalle had made a great comeback. However, shortly after LaSalle's second goal, Michael Ouellette scored for Essex assisted by Dan Bacon and Nick Diemer. Brad Quinlan and Spencer Woltz went down on a breakaway and fed Brit Garon from in front of the net to tie up the game. defence and scored nine seconds later at 6:36 with Brett picking up another assist, 7-1. Essex showed pressure early and carried the play throughout the first period. No goals were scored in this one until 7:38 of the second period when Essex took advantage of the powerplay and Jake Watters found the ack of the net, with assists oing to Brady Rickeard nd Nash Prieur. Midway through the secnd, Josh Scratch came up ig by first stopping a twon-one break, then making a ice toe save and stopping he rebound to keep heatley off the board. The econd period ended 1-0. After both sides xchanged penalties early in the third, Jake Maisonneuve broke in all alone to put his team up 2-0. With 2:55 remaining Brett Schmidt got the puck to Jake W. who, after being denied on his first attempt, tapped in his own rebound to put the game out of reach 3-0. Adam Amicarelli preserved the shutout with 50 seconds left by stretching across the crease to stop a hard shot, then denying Wheatley on the rebound. On Sunday, Tilbury hosted a second exhibition game and the momentum from Saturday spilled over into this game. After two goals on Saturday, it took only 1:05 into the first for Jake W. to go in all alone and put his team up 1-0 with Jacob Gagnon picking up an assist. With 27 seconds left in the first, Dylan Dent skated in on a three-on-none breakaway and found the mesh for the second goal of the game. At 5:10 of the second, after Brady stole the puck from a Tilbury forward then brought back into their zone, a scramble in front of the net put the Ravens up 30 with Grant Quinlan picking up an assist to end the second. At 14:07 of the third Jared Fuerth and Dylan got the puck to Brett Schmidt who found the top shelf to open the lead to 4-0. At 12:02 Jake M. fed a pass to Brady who scored again on a high deflected shot, 5-0. The third period got a little choppy and dicey, as penalties started to add up. Essex managed to keep their cool because we can't afford any suspensions so early in the playdowns and we have that important game three this Friday night in Essex. Mike Sauve saw Dan Bacon in front of the next for the satisfying `go ahead' goal to bring it to 3-2 Essex. Just when we were saying, "Done, time to go home", Josh Klein scored the final goal to bring it to 4-2. Our goaltender for this game was Sean Bear who played, as always, a very solid game. Atom A Forest Machine Saturday night we traveled to LaSalle for the first game of the play downs. Essex started strong by controlling the puck in the LaSalle end. Jonah Fuerth slipped a nice shot under the LaSalle goalie to put Essex up 1-0 with a pass from behind the net by Salty. Josh Myers was playing well in net, making numerous saves. Our defence was also playing well, stopping many of LaSalle's charges. Despite outplaying our opponents, LaSalle was able to score three unanswered goals in the second period. Midway through the third period Jonah Fuerth scored again with assists from Huddy and Salty. Everyone was getting tired, but got a boost with the last goal. LaSalle tipped in one more before Dillon Jarvis scored another goal for Essex. Assists went to Adam Zanier and Dalton Langlois. Final score 4-3 for LaSalle. Game 2 was held late Sunday afternoon in Essex. Once again Essex started by outplaying their opponents with shots on net by Dalton Langlois and Dillon Jarvis. Adam Zanier did a nice twist around off a rebound to put Essex on the scoreboard. The second period continued to be energized and action packed. Jonah just tipped wide a pass from Salty. Shawn Santarossa shut down a 2-on-1 break by LaSalle. Huddy broke up the wing and riffled a shot from the side. The passing was nice by all and we kept the pressure on. Brett Rickeard skated around the id you D ? know LaSalle zone and scored with shot from the side of the net that bounced off the goalie's side and in. Kyle Hill was on his game, and stopped a LaSalle breakaway. Late in the period Jordan Hooker scored. With only seconds remaining, Dillon Jarvis picked up the puck in our end and stick handled down through the LaSalle defence and scored to put Essex up by 4. LaSalle scored early in the third after stepping up their game. Despite great passing and plays, everyone was getting tired. Penalties proved to be a problem, as LaSalle scored three unanswered goals. Essex held on for the remainder of the game to win 4-3 and tie the series.
