Wednesday, December 27, 2006 · Page 9 Red Raider News BY KYLE WALKER SPECIAL TO THE FREE PRESS In celebration of the holiday season, many activities were going on throughout the school during the last week before the break. Doors were decorated, gingerbread houses were made, assemblies took place, and loads of cans were collected for the can drive. A one-day can drive took place on Dec. 18 and senior students used many different methods of transportation to get around the town of Essex to collect cans. All cans were donated to the Essex Area Food Bank. On Dec. 22, a Christmas assembly was held. Many acts performed including the school rock band, the teachers' skit, and even a re-enactment of Dancing with the Stars. Also on Dec. 22, students were treated to a breakfast prepared by Mr. Dunn and a few students. On Dec. 19, the junior girls' volleyball team played and defeated Catholic Central in three straight sets. The scores were 25-14, 25-13 and 2519. The team now has a record of 8-4. The senior girls' volley- ball team also played and defeated Catholic Central on Dec. 19. The seniors dominated the game and beat Catholic Central with scores of 25-6, 25-12, and 25-8. The senior team goes into the new year undefeated. On Dec. 20, DEAR occurred for the last time of 2006. Drop Everything and Read will start up again after the holiday break and place every takes Wednesday. The last hat day of 2006 took place Dec. 22.
