Wednesday, October 25, 2006 · Page 27 Midget Minor CCD Over the weekend Essex Ravens Midgets took three of four points in two games. In the weekend's first contest, the Ravens took on the Southpoint Capitals at Essex and skated to a three all tie. In that game Essex came out of the gate in full stride with Quinton Rossini finding the back of the net after just 11 seconds. Padding the lead was Danny Vivier on a nice shot from the right side going upstairs on Cap's goalie Michael Manley and Mitch Passa redirecting a blast from the point by Doug Lambier. After Essex's 3-0 lead, Southpoint refused to roll over and die and fought back to tie the game. Final shots in the game were Essex 29, Southpoint 22. In Saturday's second game at Amherstburg the Ravens came out ahead of what looked like a low scoring football game, soaring to a 9-3 victory. In that each time game Amherstburg netminders looked up they saw what appeared to be a team picture of the overwhelming presence of the Ravens' offensive. After the first period concluding somewhat evenly with a two all tie,m Essex took command and completely dominated the remaining game, outshooting their opponents 50 to 22. Leading the goal parade was Danny Vivier with four, pairs going to Corey McDonnell and Andrew Kozak and a lone goal from Derek Vivier. On Saturday the team families and friends participated in the golf tournament that was an overwhelming success. It ran with the efficiency of a PGA event, without the pro golfers. The weather was not the best for golf but you would have never known this by the laughter and good times shared by all. The team is thankful to all that sponsored, participated or contributed in any way to this event as it was truly a great way to spend a rainy Saturday, with friends and fellowship. Special thanks to Bob Hooker and Jill Morris for their time and efforts in organizing this day. On Sunday the team set out against Windsor. Windsor had beaten the boys twice already this year, once in league play and once in our Early Bird Tournament. Not phased by that, the boys came out fast and strong, ready to play. The "Young Guns" line had Windsor reeling from the drop of the puck. Dalton Langlois, Adam Zanier and Dillon Jarvis used their collective speed to create some early chances. The hard work of Brett Rickeard, Jordan Hooker and William Wuerch paid off early as they pinned the Windsor team in their end. A.J. Market pinched in, keeping the puck in the zone to Rickeard, who outworked a Windsor defenceman to centre the puck to Wuerch, who made no mistake, making it 1-0. The first period ended that way. The second period was a closely checked period. Each team had some chances but Josh Myers was able to handle all that was shot towards him. The checking continued from the defence of A.J. Market, David Stafford, Sean Santarossa, Derek Morris and Jeff Miller. They clogged up the middle and were effective in clearing the puck from our zone when Windsor attacked there. The forward line of Mitchael Salter, Mitch Hudvanger and Jonah Fuerth outworked the Windsor players and later in the game this would pay off. CONTINUED ON PAGE 30
