THURSDAY, MAY 6, 2010 THE NEW TANNER 17 LA S NON-STOP DIRECT FLIGHTS TO LAS VEGAS SEATBELTS SAVE LIVES: The owner of this truck a local farmer who did not want to be identified was lucky to walk away from this accident without any injuries. He was westbound on 32 Side Road when a northbound vehicle ran the stop sign at the Fourth Line. The driver said he aimed for the ditch and said a quick prayer as his truck ran up the hydro pole guide wires. Frances Niblock photo 3 & 4 NIGHTS TORONTO DEPARTURES Includes Airfare + Accommodation VACATION $ PACKAGES $ from 195 + taxes $245 Several people asked me if I would try and arrange a trip to the Rose Theatre in Brampton in August to see a wonderful show "The War Show". They tell me it is a musical and it's very emotional ...full of tears and laughter, and captures the spirit of the war years. If you are interested I need some input. Would you rather go on Wednesday, August 11th for the 7:30 p.m. show, and perhaps have dinner at the Mandarin first or second choice, a matinee at 2 p.m. on Saturday August 14 followed by an early dinner at the Mandarin. If you are interested please tick off your choices. The cost would probably be around $50. (Of course the price would be less if we just saw the show). We would take a school bus again for everyone's convenience. Twenty ladies attended the care for the mature skin last Tuesday when Ania Kalicki a beauty consultant with Acton's Shoppers Drug Mart gave us lots of information and showed us the correct way to wear makeup suitable and flattering for our age. Thank you Ania for all the great tips and input, (plus the freebies). There was another leaf added to the Barlow branch on the Looking to the Future trees at the Acton Seniors Centre last Friday morning. Pauline added a leaf in memory of her sister-in-law, Midge Young who passed away in Australia during the winter. Betty has asked me to mention a trip involving a ride on a "Hippo". I bet you have all wanted to ride on a Hippo. I understand it is one of the buses that float, so once everyone is aboard it will splash into Lake Ontario and you will have a 90 minute safari and see the landmarks of Toronto from a very different perspective. Included in the price is a gourmet buffet lunch at the Old Mill in Toronto. When does all this take place? On Tuesday, June 15th. Last Saturday, 24 members went to Mohawk to enjoy the Dinner Theatre. Donna told me she hadn't enjoyed a good laugh like that for a long time. The show was excellent, and the buffet meal had something to please everyone. I understand they may repeat with a new show in the late Fall when the race season is over. I seem to have spent many weeks talking about the Spring Bazaar, and now it is finally almost here. On Saturday, May 8 the Community Hall and the Acton Senior Centre will be hopping with people purchasing treasures from Grannies Attic, jewellery from Donna's stall and lots of baking in time for Mother's Day. Hopefully many will be winning prizes from either the Penny table, or the other draws. When you need a rest you can take the time to stop for a cup of coffee or tea and enjoy a sandwich and desert in the Centre. I know we haven't had much rain this year, but if you are looking for a good book to curl up with we have a great selection of paper backs ready for the sunny days in the garden or to take to the cottage, or the rainy days curled on the sofa. The name pulled this week had not been to the Centre and put their Loonie in the box, so next week the amount should be around $150.
