Book Sale Success BY MELANIE BOISSONNEAULT books on April 10, 11 and 12. So Maplewood...READ ON! The Maplewood used book sale was a great success! Last week, students brought in books they had outgrown or just wanted to share with other readers. There was a wide variety of books to choose from. All of the books were only 25 cents! Who could resist? The main purpose of the sale was to support literacy at Maplewood but some money was raised as well. This money will be put toward buying more books for our school library. Thank you to the grade seven helpers who helped sell the Making Music BY AMANDA DESJARDINS From flutes to trumpets to saxophones, the Maplewood Bands consist of many talented musicians playing a variety of instruments. Last Wednesday, the Stage Band participated in MusicFest at Migration Hall. This group played three songs, Cherry Point, Land of Make Believe and Oye Como Va. They were the only elementary school jazz band at MusicFest! Their fine performance earned them a silver standard award. On Thursday, the Concert Band also participated in this exciting event. They also played three songs including Song For Friends, The Fighting Falcon March and Down By the Salley Garden. The band was the last to perform at MusicFest and earned an amazing gold standard! Both bands did a great job and everyone is proud of them. Thank you to parents, family and friends and Maplewood staff members who came to Migration Hall to support our musicians. A special thanks goes to our awesome conductor, Mr. Hencher! Maplewood makes music!
