Wednesday, November 22, 2006 · Page 5 LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Re: The responsibility of the press The Essex Free Press has undergone many positive changes since Laurie Brett became publisher and editor. The paper now includes opinions, commentaries and editorials as well as colour photos. I for one am generally pleased with the new look and content of the paper. I do, however, have a suggestion with regard to Bill Gay's column. The Essex Free Press should solicit "opinion" columns from other members of the public besides Mr Gay. Essex and the surrounding areas have a wealth of talented writers and people with "opinions" and I think it would be a step forward to read some diverse columns in our local paper. It would be wonderful to have an "opinion" piece from 52 different people, one per week for one whole year. Let's hear what others think! This of course is just my "opinion". Bonnie Popov Lakeshore Praise for the Essex BIA I have lived in the Essex area since 1978 and am very impressed with the Business Improvement Area led by Marlene Markham-Gay. She has managed to keep the town thriving with the Easter bunny promotion, Christmas with Santa, the car show (with the great increase of cars from the first show), and all the other events the BIA puts on. I commend Marlene and the committee for their caring interest in the community. I say, keep up the Grrreat work, you all. If the people who complain about the BIA would spend more time supporting the town and less time complaining, there would be even more improvement.
