SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL MERCHANTS Nominations open for Essex Business Excellence Awards Nominations for the Essex Business Improvement Area Business Excellence Awards (formerly called the Pride Awards) are now being accepted. Members of the public may nominate a business for the outstanding customer service award by filling out the form located on page 14 of this week's Free Press. Other awards include volunteer of the year by a member and by a non-member, exterior improvements to a business, interior improvements, unique and new look to an existing business, relocating an existing business to a new or renovated building. Nominations must be received at the BIA office by Oct. 15. The Business Excellence Awards evening will be held Wednesday, Nov. 1 at the Essex Legion at 7 p.m. The theme this year is "nostalgic military" in honour of Fort Malden National Historic Site's 150th anniversary. Tickets are $25 and are available from the BIA. New members needed for BIA Board The current BIA Board will dissolve with Essex Town Council and a new board must be appointed. Names must be submitted by Nov. 15 to stand for election. Business owners or their representatives are eligible and should submit their nomination in writing to Clerk Jerry Marion at the town hall. Great Turkey Caper The BIA's Great Turkey Caper returns for another year. In the spirit of giving back to the community in time for Thanksgiving, businesses or individuals are encouraged to purchase a turkey at Schinkel's, Zehrs or Essex Foodland and ask them to set it aside for the Essex Food Bank.
