Wednesday, September 20, 2006 · Page 18 Atom AE Ram Contract Carriers The Essex Ravens Atom AE Ram Contract Carriers are entering another hockey season with a group of new players and coaching staff. The coaching staff is headed by Drae Prentice, with Don Kraynack and Tim St. Pierre as assistants. Mark Weissenboeck will be the trainer and goalie coach and the manager is Dan Robillard. On the player roster, goaltenders include Emily Cressman and Kane Gagnon. The rest of the team includes Luke Tremblay, Tyler St. Pierre, Matthew Zelko, Mitchell Magee, Cody Cooper, Alex Stevenson, Alec Robillard, Zachary Prentice, Anthony Iacobini, Carter Sherk, Danielle Dent, Eric Rawlins, Gerard Busko, Aidan Garant and Clay Kraynack. After final cuts were made and with one practice under their belt, the team hosted an exhibition game against Belle River, winning 6-1. On Sept. 16, the team travelled to Amherstburg to face the Stars. Essex lost the game 8-1 with Tyler St. Pierre scoring the only goal with an assist by Zackary Prentice. The team is hosting Southpoint tomorrow night at 7 p.m. at Essex Memorial Arena. ATOM A Midget Minor CCD The Essex Ravens Midget Minor team met the Southpoint Sharks Sept. 16, in a game that would see players on both sides frequently spending time in the penalty box. The Ravens scored first, with Andrew Kozak tipping in a point shot, with assists by Derek Vivier and Jesse Breault on the power play. Southpoint would answer back late in the first period while on a power play. The second period would see Essex scoring two more. The first came from Quinton Rossini, assisted by Andrew Kozak and Travis Hendrick. The next goal would come on a five-on-three power play. After some good puck movement, Corey McDonnell scored with assists from Spencer Mcdowell and Derek Vivier. In the third period, Essex held off Southpoint's attack with solid goal tending from Matt Lachine. On another power play late in the game, Corey McDonnell scored his second of the night with a tricky, off-the-post and behind the goalie pass from Danny Vivier. The final score of the game was Essex 4, Southpoint 1. The 2006-2007 Essex Ravens Atom A team has been announced. The team is comprised of Kyle Hill, No. 1, Josh Myers, 30, Jonah Fuerth, 9, Jordan Hooker, 6, Mitchell Hudvagner, 16, Dillon Jarvis, 7, Dalton Langlois, 12, A.J. Market, 5, Jeff Miller, 10, Derek Morris, 13, Brett Rickeard, 4, Mitchael Salter, 8, Sean Santarossa 14, David Stafford, 2, William Wuerch 11 and Adam Zanier, 17. The coaching staff is Dave Morris, Terry Teskey, John Cacilhas, trainer Bob Hooker and manager Jill Morris. The season started Sept. 16 and 17 with a win against Riverside. Riverside scored first at 7:12 on a power play. Brett Rickeard passed to Mitchell "Huddy" Hudvagner who shot past the Riverside goalie to tie the game. Rickeard broke free and made a shot in the top corner of the net to put the Ravens ahead. The coaching staff credits Kyle Hill with some significant saves during the game. Rickeard passed to Dalton Langlois who fired a shot past the Riverside goalie early in the third period. Hudvagner scored his second goal in an over-theshoulder shot with an assist by Sean Santarossa and Rickeard. Coaches said the team's defense was tested during the team and that Josh Myers came up with a great glove save during a five-onthree from Riverside. Riverside scored again in the third period making the score 4-2. Following team tryouts and exhibition games for the Essex Ravens Pee Wee AE squad, the roster has been announced. Coaches Cal Miller, Jim Geschiere, trainer Norm Caille and manager Dave Moody will instruct the team. Goalies are Chris Drouillard, Ryan St. John. The remainder of the team is comprised of Michael Caille, Jeffery Geschiere, Riley Jones, Jeremy Miller, Michael Reeb, Justin Toth, Braidon Leboeuf, Tyler Moore, John Vandeputte, Tina Iacobini, Spencer Smith, Collin Ellis, Mitchell Moody, Matthew Montello and Zachary Powell. During the team's first exhibition game against Amherstburg Sept. 15 St. John played net for the first half and made a nice save as Amherstburg tried to get it in the "5 hole." Reeb attempted three consecutive shots from the blue line and Matthews tried to shoot one through the opponent's 5 hole. Drouillard was in next for the second half of the game, a challenging part of the match-up according to coaches who said the team's energy had decreased. The team lost 5-0 to Amherstburg. On Sept. 16 the Pee Wee Ravens headed to Wheatley to take on Southpoint. Southpoint scored in the first few minutes of the game, but Drouillard managed to keep the team at bay for the rest of the period while making some good saves, coaches said. Toth passed to Montello to try to get the puck past the Southpoint goalie. In the second half of the game St. John was in net. Southpoint scored another at the end of the second, but Toth was awarded a penalty shot when Southpoint tried to stop him on a break away. Ultimately, the score ended 7-0 for Southpoint.
