The committee is made up of Essex Chief Administrative Officer Wayne Miller, Treasurer Donna Hunter, Mayor Ron McDermott and Parks and Recreation Director Doug Sweet. Sweet said the group has met with the architects for the project, Rounthwaite, Dick and Hadley, on two occasions about possible designs. During a meeting last week the group asked RDH to present an alternative design option. "They presented one proposed plan and we asked them to come back with a second option," Sweet said. "We are planning to hold an open house at the Harrow arena and the Essex arena for public input." Sweet said the open houses would likely take place next month. He said the basics of the design, including the rinks and dressing rooms, are foremost on the committee's priority list. The second design request was an attempt to see how the design options might be reconfigured. The second design plan is expected within the next two weeks. "We want people's feedback so the public has some say in the process," Sweet said. "Sometimes a new set of eyes will see things differently." Lambeth wins OBA Midget C Lambeth claimed the Ontario Baseball Association Midget "C" Championship on Sunday defeating Petrolia 10 to 0. The tournament was held in Leamington. Lambeth did it the hard way, waiting out a sevenhour rain delay and then upsetting the previously undefeated Petrolia team twice. Geoff Mann earned the win in the final, throwing a two hitter. The victory gave the lanky righthander three wins in the seven-team tournament. (O.P.S.) 2008 may seem like it's years away, but for athletes looking to compete at the Beijing 2008 Olympic and Paralympic Games the time crunch, in terms of training and preparation, is already here. Training for the Olympic and Paralympic Games not only takes time and dedication, it also takes funding. This is where Visa, through the Team Visa program, steps in. Team Visa is a program created by Visa to help aspiring Canadian Olympians and Paralympians reach their goals. As any top-ranking athlete will tell you, it takes years of dedication and training to compete at the international level, and athletes need support between the Games as well as during Olympic and Paralympic years. Visa recognizes this and has opened nominations now for additional summer athletes to join Team Visa. Until September 30, 2006, Visa is asking friends, family, teammates and coaches to nominate deserving Canadian amateur athletes currently training for the 2008 Olympic or Paralympic Games to become a part of the Team Visa program. This is the first time the nominations have been open to the public, and Visa ning and pitching/catching. The camp is open to all girls ages 8-15 who want to improve their fastball skills. Space is limited. Pre-register by contacting Cathy Archer at archcombo6@ aol.com or by phone at 519-969-0169.
