This May. former Governor General Michaciic Jean was presented the samme degree by the new chancellor Steve Paikin That is pretty nice company to be with in Barric. so | could be prejudiced However. most who read this will know that | was born in Barric. taught at Barrne North Collegiate (and for onc year at Central) for my career. and was on council for 27 years. 12 of them as mayor. Barric 1s my home — as a town of less than 10.000 in my growing up years. and now as a thriving city of 20 times that population. Half of my fam- ily of seven is in Barric. I care deeply about its presem. and future. We are the only city of our size m Ontario (perhaps m Canada). which does not have a university.
