Wednesday, November 22, 2006 · Page 19 Atom A Forest Machine In the first of three tough games the Ravens headed to Tecumseh on Wednesday night. Jonah Fuerth got us going in the first with a nice deke and slipped it through the five hole. We came out flat in the second and fell behind 3-1. The Ravens were flying in the third when Mitchell Salter cranked one in on a nice feed from Mitchell Hudvagner. The boys kept pressing until Jonah hit the post and then Salty got his second of the game to knot the score at three. Kyle Hill had a strong game and made an enormous save with 50 seconds left to earn us a point. Final 3-3. At Windsor the boys came out hitting with solid checks from Dave Stafford and Derek Morris along with solid defence from Jeff Miller and Sean Santarossa. Josh Myers kept us in the game with stellar goaltending but we just couldn't find the back of the net. Windsor popped a couple to give the Ravens their first loss in the last seven games. Final 4-0. The next day the Ravens came out flying. Scoring the first goal by Brett Rickeard assisted by Derrik Morris put Essex quickly into the game with Belle River. The second period was filled with great plays from the Ravens. End to end play brought our second goal passed from Salter over to Jonah who passed it out front to Huddy. Huddy was ready and waiting for his chance and we were glad he took it as it brought the score up to 2-1 Essex. Mitchell Salter hustled throughout the game which brought us our third goal as he was back and forth behind the net, pulling the puck back and forth and wrapping it right around the net to score. Strong defense by Stafford and Santarossa and determination from Morris kept the Ravens working hard as a team. Jordan Hooker, William Wuerch and Brett Rickeard tore up the ice as they brought us our next two goals. Both goals scored by William Wuerch assisted by Jordan Hooker. Great team work from Brett and strong skating brought the puck to the Belle River end. The little line of Adam, Dillon and Dalton worked hard with great backchecking and hustle but they were robbed of their shots on net. The Ravens cleaned up with a score of 63 as Mitchell Salter came flying in and sniped another goal that was assisted by Dave Stafford. Great passing and team playing made this game a stellar one to watch. Way to go Essex! Atom AE Ram Contract Carriers The Atom AE Ravens had another busy weekend. Friday they played a strong LaSalle team. Emily Cressman did a great job playing net. After the first period the score was 1-0 for LaSalle. Shortly into the second they snuck two more goals past our defense. Finally we were able to get a break when Zack passed the puck to Tyler and Busko sending them on a two on one breakaway giving us one goal from Busko. The game ended 5-1. Our players worked hard and are showing positive improvement. Saturday they travelled to Chatham. Kane Gagnon was in net for this game. He faced a lot of shots and made some great saves. Carter Sherk scored on a rebound from Alex Stevenson, and Busko scored on an unassisted breakaway. These were our only goals of the game. Clay Kraynack had some great hits and Danielle Dent played an awesome defensive game. Aidan Garant impressed everyone with his back checking. Sunday we had an exhibition game against Kingsville. After a scoreless first period, Riverside opened the scoring with a powerplay at the fourminute mark. The Ravens kept on the attack and Quinton Rossini scored on a nice pass from Danny Vivier with 2:38 left in the second period to tie the score. Riverside scored on a powerplay at 4:02 in the third to go up 2-1. There was no `quit' in the Ravens who kept bringing it on and Tyler Reeb scored from Mitch Passa with 4:09 left, to end the game 2-2. Many thanks to Travis Hendricks, Ty Queen and Chad Hedrick who came up from Bantam A to give us some much needed help. Belle River came out skating hard and was able to take early advantage in the game, despite great goaltending from Dustin Ridley. The Ravens had a few scoring chances by the line of Tyler Bellaire, Brandon Flood and Luca Acchione, but could not find the back of the net. Eric Lee had a great opportunity on a breakaway and was backed up by Cody Spitse on the rebound, but Essex was to be denied by Belle River's goaltender. Belle River was able to fend off the Ravens to take the victory. On Sunday, the Ravens were hungry to make up for the previous day's loss. The first period ended with no score, but Belle River was able to net the first goal of the game in the second frame. Not to be outdone, Essex answered right back with a great shot by Evan Bechard from the bottom of the circle in the opponent's end. Good physical defensive moves kept the game interesting and first-class hipchecking by Zach Heil kept the crowd wanting more. Belle River, however, was able to keep the lead and take the win. Great job between the pipes by Brady Heil. Tyler Reeb and Quinton but the Eagles came right back to tie it at three. At 6:29 Danny Vivier scored on a nice passing play from Spencer and Quinton. The Eagles tried to claw their way back into the game but an empty netter by Spencer sealed the win for Essex. Sunday the boys travelled to Belle River. The Rink Rats opened the scoring at 1:35 but Danny Vivier took a beautiful pass from Quinton and slammed it home at 4:23 to tie the game. Both teams traded scoring chances in the second period but the Rink Rats snuck one by Matt Lachine to take a 2-1 lead after two periods. Our penalty killers Spencer, Quinton, Doug Lambier and Derek Vivier did a great job of keeping us in the game. With 1:14 to go in the third we pulled the goalie and would have tied the game but Danny Vivier was robbed on the door step. One finally went in but it was a split second after the buzzer, sending us home with a 2-1 loss. It was another fantastic goaltending display by Matt Lachine.
