WILBEE · Evening Appointments 776-9900 Branch 201 Royal Canadian Legion veterans gather Nov. 5 for the annual Remembrance Day banquet. REMEMBRANCE DAY MESSAGE From Your Mayor and Members of Council Of the Town of Lakeshore Remembrance Day is a time to reflect on the sacrifices made by men and women during the First World War, the Second World War, the Korean War and all wars and peacekeeping missions since that time. These Canadians fought to preserve the freedom and democracy we enjoy today. On the 11th hour, of the 11th day, of the 11th month, take a minute to pause and acknowledge the courage and sacrifice made by these men and women for our Country. Let us continue to work for the peace they fought hard to achieve. Branch 201 remembers BY BILL GAY Royal Canadian Legion Branch 201 held their annual Remembrance Day banquet this past Sunday in Essex. A full house came out to hear various speakers pay tribute to Canada's military in past and present conflicts. Essex MPP Bruce Crozier noted that it's the "young who will carry the message (of remembrance) forward." Kim Morris, president of Branch 201's Ladies Auxiliary, presented the branch with a $20,000 donation, generated by volunteers at the Legion kitchen. Padre Kim Gilliland presented a slide show of his trip to European battlefields this year. Beautifully landscaped cemeteries, described as English gardens, dot the countryside at all too familiar locations like Dieppe. He noted that while most World War Two graves are identified, most Great War sites are not. Vimy Ridge, where author Pierre Berton once said that "Canada became a nation", still contains live munitions and expels about 60 bodies from the ground per year. Legion services will be held at Essex United Church at 10 a.m. Nov. 11, followed by a service at the Cenotaph at 11 a.m. Lest we forget $3000 SUPER JACKPOT EVERY SESSION $ 3 GIANT $5,500 BINGO!
