Thank you to Hailey Rounding for assistant coach position, Matt Krutsch as a side line flag helper, Brit Garon as referee, and to the parents for driving our players to away games, your support and withstanding the cold weather elements throughout each game. Coaches Ms Schmidt, Mrs. Henze, and Mrs. Blencoe are extremely impressed with the sportsmanship and skills the girls displayed this season. *** Holy Name Student Council reps spend their lunch hour making the treat bag prizes for the lucky class winners of this year's pumpkin decorating contest. This year's pumpkins were generously donated by Murray McLeod of Cottam. Holy Name Hawk Happenings Lights, camera, action! Holy Name The Elementary `Théâtre français' is set to begin. Students in grades 4B, 4F and 4R, along with their FSL teachers Mlle Melo and Mme Poisson, have been working diligently on a play `en français' for the past few weeks and this week the performances began. Eager students had the opportunity to present their `masterpieces' short adaptations of the everpopular fable of The Three Little Pigs to accepting audiences throughout the school. Grade 4 students would like to thank all of the classes who graciously opened their doors (and their ears) for these extra special performances. Mlle Melo and Mme Poisson would like to congratulate these hard-working Grade 4 students on a job well done. Stay tuned to next week's edition for photos of the Grade 4's in action! Once again, HNS participated in the `Coats for Kids' campaign and, as always, the generosity and caring spirit of our students shone through. Students responded to this worthwhile campaign by contributing a great number of items. All donated items will benefit area children and work towards making someone's winter warmer. Students on the crosscountry team headed outdoors this week to compete in a regional meet. A valiant effort was put forth by all participants. Great job, Hawks! The creative juices were flowing at HNS this week. Classes were hard at work collaborating on ideas to be put to use when decorating their class pumpkin for the upcoming Halloween contest sponsored by HNS Student Council. Each class was given a pumpkin to decorate in their own, unique way. Upon completion, pumpkins will be judged (by guest judges from our own community) for the chance to take home the coveted title in one of these three categories Funniest Pumpkin, Spookiest Pumpkin, and Most Original Pumpkin. Class pumpkins will be displayed for all to see in the school atrium. Judging will take place, and rightfully so, on Halloween Day. Tryouts were held on Oct. 17 and teams were chosen by Oct. 19. Both the boys' and girls' teams began to practise hard right away. The senior girls had their first tournament at Oakwood Public School. Maplewood won most of their games. The team fought hard but did not go on to the consolation match. Coaches Mr. Ruggirello, Miss Reeb and Mrs. Henze are all very proud of the effort and hard work the girls put into their matches. Well done girls. The senior boys have played numerous games so far. They won some and lost some but either way the coaches were always impressed with the turnout. Coaches of the senior boys' team are Mrs. Augustine and Mrs. Bauer. Both the girls' and boys' teams have a lot of skill and talent. The senior girls are training hard for their two upcoming tournaments. One is the Red Raider tournament at Essex High School and the other is the tournament at Fanshawe College in London. The girls are very excited and pumped up. Both teams know they will have to train very hard this season if they expect to go on to the District Championship in December. Good luck Tigers and keep up your excellent work ROAR! by Nicole Nantais One of the most exciting pieces of news at Maplewood P.S. is that our school has been "adopted" by the Windsor Spitfires. In this "adoption" Maplewood will receive many sets of free tickets to upcoming Spitfire hockey games. A notice was sent home to each and every Maplewood family explaining the following exciting event. Each family that wished to be entered in our draws will have a chance to win a set of tickets. There is also a contest going on right now. Any student who wishes to have lunch with a few of the Spitfire players can write a brief essay explaining why they believe they should be chosen. The deadline for entries is Monday, Nov. 6. Our judges will make their decisions that week. Maplewood was nominated to be adopted by the Spitfires by two local doctors, Doctor Azad and Doctor Koutras from the Essex Clinic. Maplewood would like to thank them for their support. Thank you to the Spitfires too. Go Tigers! by Vicki VanGent
