During a campaign last spring, Holy Name stuents raised money by paying for privileges such as lisening to music or wearing casual clothes to school. Holy Name Hawk Happenings What an exciting week at Holy Name Elementary! The Junior and Senior Kindergarten classes enjoyed a fun morning at Cider Mill Farm in Harrow last week. Their tour of the farm included an orchard walk, cider and donut tasting, and apple stamping. They also visited the horse arena to learn how staff care for the horses. Each child was able to pick a bag of apples to bring home. Grade 3 students will be collecting money to buy a Thanksgiving dinner for a family in Essex. Students will be walking to Essex Foodland on Oct. 3 to make their purchases. The food will be brought to Holy Name of Jesus Parish where it will be distributed from there, thanks to the help of Father Larry. Grade 7 and 8 students will begin studying the geography of Africa via a project unique to the Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board called "Small World Big Picture: Expedition Africa." Teachers will introduce students to an interactive 'reality' curriculum by following the expedition of a documentary team through Africa. Past expeditions of this team have been shown on the Discovery Channel. If any parent is interested in viewing the expedition route, visit team's www.algonquincollege.com/ africa. In other school news ... Congratulations to Marisa Market on her success in the Creative Biophilia Poster sponsored by Contest JazzPurr Society of Windsor. Marisa was presented with an award at the school board meeting on Sept. 12. She also attended a dinner in honour of Dr. Jane Goodall, the renowned primatologist. Ten other students from Holy Name also attended the lecture given by Dr. Jane Goodall at the University of Windsor on Sept. 26. Miss Andreozzi and Mr. Gregetz are pleased to announce that the 3rd Annual Student Council Elections results are in, and the class representatives for 2006-2007 have been elected. RAISING AWARENESS Sun Parlor staff and students participated in the Terry Fox Run/Walk on Thursday afternoon by walking the track at Essex High after learning about Terry Fox and his heroic quest to walk across Canada to raise awareness about cancer.
