The Jackets started the tournament playing Byron, the host team. The Jackets woke their bats right away scoring five runs on their first at bat. Great work by the infield throwing runners out and super work by the outfield getting the ball in quickly left Byron scoreless in the first two innings. Essex continued to remain in the lead for the majority of the game. Consequently, the score leading into the seventh inning was Essex 10, Byron 8, but Byron came out strong scoring six runs and winning the game 14 to 10. Essex was back out on the field again on Saturday to face Wyoming. The Jackets' defence was terrific, holding Wyoming to only three runs all game. Great plays by the infield came from Jake Watters, Colin Lauzon, Tyler St. Pierre, Brode Masse and Adam Amicarelli. Everyone worked hard at bat, however, it was the middle of the batting order Kane Gagnon, Nash Prieur, Anthony Iacobini, Jake, and Adam that clinched the win for Essex. The game ended quickly after only five innings with Essex winning 15 - 3. Essex finished the round robin series with 1-1 record seating them in fourth place for the finals on Sunday. The Yellowjackets had to face a tough first game against the first place team of North London. North London came out very strong and leaped to an early lead with some solid hits. Unwilling to give up, the entire Jacket lineup slowly picked away at the North London defence with strong base hits by Brendan Jones, Sydney O'Doherty, and Logan McMurren. With Essex down 12 - 9 going in to the 5th inning, the team knew what they had to do. Alec Robillard started the inning with a solid base hit and the flood gates opened. The Jackets ran the entire order and North London never made an out. Brode launched a monster hit into right field forcing the fielder all the way to the fence. After that inning all the momentum was going the Jackets' way and the next inning continued to be more of the same. Great outfield contributions by Alec, Alex Smith, Kane, Nash, Sydney, Logan and Brendan. Essex shut down the North London bats and won the game 25 - 14. The championship game found Essex up against Byron once again. The Jackets started strong once again scoring two runs then shutting down Byron's top three batters. The whole team was playing great and everyone was hitting the ball. Essex was up 8 - 6 going in to the fifth inning. In the bottom of the fifth, Byron's bats came alive and they scored seven runs to take the lead. With the Jackets down by five going in to the 7th inning after fantastic hitting by Jake, Kane and Nash, the team knew they needed some runs. Brendan started the rally with a solid lead off hit and Logan, Alec, Tyler, Colin, Jake and Kane followed his lead. The team tied up the game at 15 - 15. Byron, however, would have last at bat and delivered a couple of terrific base hits to score the only run they needed to win the game Team Standings as of July 25th, 2006 - Orange 44.5 points 36 points - Red - Purple 35.5 points - Blue 34.5 points 33 points - Green - Yellow 26.5 points Ladies 18 Hole Classic Team Points as of July 27, 2006 - 1st, S.
