Sandra Strauss, program co-ordinator of Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Halton, nominated Morris for the award. — Submitted photo Suspicious man attempts to lure Acton newspaper boy Both the Halton public and Catholic school boards have asked Acton schools to send home a letter to parents informing them that police are investigating an inci- dent in Acton where a man tried to order a young boy into his vehicle. On April 29th, shortly after 3:30 p.m., a 12-year-old Acton boy was delivering newspapers on Mill Street West. As the boy was riding his bicycle, a man in sil- ver, four-door vehicle pulled up beside him and ordered him to get in his car. The paper boy did not stop or talk to the man, but instead rode home to tell his parents. A police search failed to locate the suspect. The man in the car is described as, male, white, 5’8” to 6” tall, with short white hair, wearing a red t-shirt. The sil- ver vehicle is possibly a 2006 to 2009 model year, a four-door car with an On- tario licence plate. Halton Police ask parents and guard- ians to review with younger children the important street safety precautions dis- cussed in school, in order to help support and reinforce school safety programs: ¢ Play safe and play together. Do not play in remote areas of parks, or take short cuts through the woods. * Do not loiter on the way to or from school. * Do not go anywhere with a stranger, and do not accept rides for any reason. Do not be afraid to say “NO” to any re- quest, and run away quickly. ¢ Advise an adult of any suspicious strangers right away. * Do not accept any treats, i.e. candies, toys or money from a stranger for any reason. ¢ Always notify your parents where you are and where you are going. Please review with teenagers the im- portance of: ¢ Never accepting rides from stran- gers. ¢ Walking to and from school with friends when possible, and do not take shortcuts through remote areas if alone. * Notifying your parents where you are and where you are going, especially if it is a change in routine.
