Dear Editor: I have had many ’good Samaritan’ moments since mov- ing here three years ago. ' Recently I was shopping at Target, carting an oversized ‘Olaf' plush toy under my arm. A young man with his wife and toddler approached me and said he had an Olaf in his car, the same size except it could also sing and dance. They explained their daughter had received the toy as a birthday gift, but she was too young for it. The father ran out to his car and returned with an animated Olaf and gave it to me. He refused to take anything for it. I was reading in the Champion about the Miracle on Main Street event and learned of the generosity of Mil- tonians and the Tiger Jeet Singh Foundation. I decided to take my three-year-old granddaughter to donate toys as an altruistic learning experience for her. l was so proud of her as she carried the new. big Olaf to the col- lection truck so 'other children could have fun too." At one of the raffle tables, my grandchild spotted a beautiful Elsa doll. She placed her tickets in the Elsa bag. Miracle on Main Street had ended but she wasn't leaving. She waited with her head resting on her folded arms, gazing up at the doll. The busy volunteers at the raffle assured me that the winners would be called later that day. My granddaughter continued to wait. The women came to the Elsa doll and said they would check the ticket right away. I could tell by the expres- sion on their faces that someone else had won. "Just a minute," the womanin charge whispered to me. “She didn’t win, but i know who did." Off she went to chat with another lady also wearing a volunteers’ shirt. The lady came over and talked to my granddaughter. 'Did you want this Elsa doll?“ The child nodded yes. ~She managed to choke out a 'thank you' when the volunteer handed her the prize. i managed to choke out, 'Now I know what Christmas means in Milton." ' Thank you to the young family in Target. Thank you to the lovely women at the Miracle on Main Street raffle. I too will pay it forward.
