First published on June 1, 1881 by A.R. Fawcett, 26 Sydenham St. in Flesherton. July 1888, - the newspaper was purchased by Willard Hadley Thurston 1900 - Moved it to the corner of Collingwood and Peter Street in Flesherton. August 1938 - Frank Thurston (son of Willard Hadley Thurston) took over publication. September 1961 - purchased by Royden Johnston 1965 - purchased by Godfrey Clark 1968 - Walter Walls, owner and editor of the Dundalk Herald purchased the Advance and shifted production in conjunction with the Dundalk Herald offices in Dundalk. Matt Walls is the present editor of the Dundalk Herald and Flesherton Advance.
