Everyone enjoyed viewing the wedding pictures on display, the Pier 21 scene, WWII books and other war memorabilia. Rose Stanley of Kingsville delighted the crowd by modeling her wedding dress, worn on Apr. 7, 1945. Gifts were given to Mary St. Louis, the youngest bride present and to Cecilia Burling the eldest bride present. A bridal bouquet adorned with horse shoes, an English tradition, was won by Edna Girard. Each lady received a gift bag which included a personalized certificate from Pier 21, Halifax, N.S. and other Pier 21 leaflets and booklets depicting scenes of their arrival there in the 1940's. Also they received a Lakeshore pin, a Windsor Coat of Arms pin and a Canada pin. The Woodslee Credit Union graciously sponsored their lunch. Barb Stanley made the beautiful decorated cakes, depicting an English theme on them. The St. John's ladies served a delicious lunch to the 140 people in attendance. A group picture was taken in the sanctuary during which the ladies sang, "Sentimental Journey" and "We'll Meet Again". Hopefully they can keep in touch and will meet again. Organizer, Joanne McMurren was pleased to help create this memorable reunion for them. The Friends of Woodslee had a successful Yellow Ribbon Troop Campaign on Sun. Apr. 15 at The Memorial Park and the results as of Fri. Apr. 27 is: 27 troop boxes packed to the very top and 109 Tim Hortons gift certificates. This shipment will be sent on Tuesday to the Armouries in Windsor and they in turn send everything to the troops in Afghanistan. As a tiny hamlet we are extremely thrilled to be able to show support in this way to the families of a soldier serving in that country and happy that the soldiers have something packed with love from Canada to open.
