"The result was that, after much looking, I purchased a 1953 Morris Oxford sedan (you know, one of those !@$% little English cars) for the princely sum of $250. The Morris was not really my idea of `cool' transportation (I would much rather have had a Ford or a Chev) but Dad reminded me that the car was in pretty good shape. "It was shiny jet-black in colour, had four cylinders and a four-speed manual shift on the column, if you please. The real leather upholstery smelled luxuriously on that warm fall day when I went to pick it up, having bought it a couple of days before. "The two fellows who had previously owned the car had done a lot of work on it before selling it to me. First, they had cobbled together a continental kit and placed it on the trunk and rear bumper (extended about 8" from normal). It sounds dreadful but it didn't look all that bad. "The front fender chrome strips from a 1952 (or so) Mercury half-ton had been scrounged and placed on the front fenders of my car. These strips didn't look too out of place, but the Ford Motor Company just had to put `Mercury' on them in great, huge, red letters. At traffic lights, these additions made for some interesting comments from fellow motorists: `Morris Mercury! Where the hell did you find that ­ the bottom of Wascana Creek?' or `Didja make that continental kit out of your Meccano set?' or `Hey, hot shot, wanna drag?' "Anyway, I was now a proud member of the motoring public. On Saturday afternoons, six of us would pile into it and travel to shoot pool in Pense, a nearby village. Jean Page, our president, welcomed everyone and announced that we have three new members, Gloria Smith, Pam Shillings, and Lou Ann Setterington. Also returning is a former member, Cindy Fields. Greg Knox, our golf pro, talked about the new online tee system for booking tee times and entering scores. Our executive is comprised of: President - Jean Page, Past President Theresa Flynn, VicePresident Dorothy McGregor, Secretary Carole Dywelska, Treasurer - Mary Jones, Captain Joyce Stewart, and CoCaptain - Fran Wasyliniuk.
