Wednesday, April 18, 2007 · Page 9 Yellow ribbon campaign supports troops CONTINUED FROM PAGE 1 Veterans, neighbours and members of the church community came together to offer the Adams children and other military families words of gratitude and encouragement. "We want to honour those who have given their lives and those who've come back and pressed on," said guest speaker Larry Costello, a veteran of the Second World War. "As a veteran, I find it an honour and a privilege to be asked to salute them." Debbie said ever since the death of Sgt. Donald Lucas, a friend of the family and one of six soldiers who were killed in a roadside bombing on Easter Sunday, Duane has said his sense of duty has only strengthened. "He said they have a job to do and all the guys want to be there," Debbie said. "After Donny died, they don't want him to die for nothing." Donations heading overseas The Yellow Ribbon Troop Campaign helped bring together boxes of food and toiletry donations from local supporters that will be heading overseas and into the hands of Canadian troops in the coming weeks. Cpl. Devlin Bauer, who returned home to Lakeshore from Afghanistan Feb. 12, said receiving a donation box while serving was enough to make his day. "You'd have a really bad day and you'd get to your room and there would be a package waiting for you from just some random person and it just made your day that much better," said Bauer, who was stationed at a Kandahar airfield doing convoy escorts. "And now being able to participate in one of these celebrations is just great. I'm here with my friends and my family so it's just that much better too."
