HNS students were busy this week collecting pledges for their upcoming `Read-a-Thon'. What silly stunts will the teachers of HNS have to perform? What will the grand total be? Staff and students ushered in the Lenten season on Wednesday, Feb. 22 with a beautiful mass celebration in the school gymStudents in nasium. Grades 5F and SKD, with guidance from their teachers, prepared a celebration that was truly noteworthy. The SK's treated the crowd to a wonderful Ash Wednesday prayer in the form of a song. Many thanks to Father Larry and Mrs. Bondy for joining us and assisting in this celebration. Thank you, as well, to the parents, relatives, friends, and other members of the HNS community who took the time to attend and participate in our Ash Wednesday celebration. Grade One students enrolled in the French Immersion program at HNS had the opportunity to view the `Tales of Anansi' (L'araignée Anansi), in French, at the Chrysler Theatre last week. As a means of exploring these tales further, students revisited various vocabulary words heard in the presentation and created summaries (en français, of course) of their favourite events. Those who would like to learn more about the French Immersion program that is available at Holy Name Elementary are invited to attend an information/registration session on Monday, March 5 from 7 to 8 p.m. Those in attendance will be treated to video excerpts of Grade 1N in action. Mme Novakovic, our Grade 1 French Immersion teacher, will also be present at this session to answer any questions and provide further details. currently Students enrolled in SK who will be entering Grade One in September may enroll in the French Immersion program on the evening of March 5, or at any time thereafter by contacting the main office. It was easy to know where she was going to be, because she's been volunteering at Sun Parlor every Wednesday ever since she retired several years ago. Not only does she work with the students, but she also brings treats for the staff. What a wonderful volunteer!
