In the third period neither team was looking good even though Essex now had a two goal lead. With only six minutes in the game left Amherstburg got a fluke goal and within a couple of minutes they scored again. Back to a tie game 5-5. The third period was a huge disappointment for Essex. Overtime not what the Bantams wanted. They were running a short bench all night. Both teams had to pull it together for more hockey. The game finally came to an end with only four minutes left in overtime when Essex player Tony Spidalieri popped in an unassisted goal to win the game 6-5. Essex was relived to take the lead in the series. An outstanding effort by goaltender Evan Howson who kept Essex in the game all the way. Essex needed one more win to take the series. This game was held in Essex on Thursday night. With the first period coming to a close Amherstburg capitalized on a powerplay with 57 seconds left on the board. with Amherstburg momentum scored another powerplay goal four minutes into the second period. Essex got on the board with a powerplay goal scored by Ryan Morris assisted by Hedrick, Alex Chad Thomson late in the second to end the period 2-1 for Amherstburg. Early in the third Alex Thomson scored to tie it up 2-2 assisted by Tony Spidalieri. Blain Little and Tony Spidalieri helped Colin Delaet get the go ahead goal with 7:53 left on the clock. Amherstburg couldn't keep a lid on their frustration as they took eight penalties in the third. With the period coming to an end Lyle Little assisted by Ryan Morris got an empty netter to close the game 4-2 and the series 3-1. Great work boys. Atom AE Ram Contract Carriers The Ravens Atom AE team played their second game of the playdowns against Belle River. The Rink Rats were up 1-0 until 45 seconds left in the second period when Zack scores short handed. Going into the third 1-1 the Ravens had to step up their game to win. Two minutes into the third period Busko scored a goal from Tyler and Zack. Busko did it again from Carter Sherk and Alex Stevenson. And with only one second left Busko scored again from Zack and Tyler. Hat trick for Busko, way to work. Kane Gagnon played a great game in net. Final score 4-1 Essex. Friday night the Ravens travelled to St. Thomas. Zack put the Ravens on the board in the first period from Busko and Clay Kraynack. Busko scored in the second from Tyler and Zack. St. Thomas tied up the score in the third period until Tyler took a pass from Busko and Carter and gave us the edge 3-2. We ran into some penalty problems but Alex fought hard to kill the time along with strong defence from Danielle Dent, Clay, Colton Kitchen, Matthew Zelko, Alec Robillard and Carter with awesome shots from the point. Tyler scored again on a pass from Zack and Busko and Busko finished off our goals from Alec Robillard and Tyler. Rod Summerfield and Kane shared the goaltending. Final score Essex 5, St. Thomas 3. Accident claims life of Harrow woman On Jan. 20, Essex O.P.P. reported a fatal motor vehicle collision at Howard Ave. and Highway #3 involving a small pick-up truck and transport truck, which claimed the life of a 22-yearold Harrow woman, BobbieLynne O'Connor-Laporte. OPP Constable Will Chisholm said the 2000 Ford Ranger she was driving was southbound on Howard Avenue approaching the traffic lights at the intersection of Highway #3. The Ranger failed to stop for a red light at the intersection and continued into the intersection where an eastbound transport truck collided with the round robin series was against St. Thomas in Essex on Saturday night. The Ravens have worked extremely hard this season and it definitely shows in their skills improvements, the passing plays and defensive attacks are awesome. Harrow FHT fundraising Community fundraising for the Harrow Family Health Team medical centre went over the $1 million mark just before the new year and now approaches the goal of $1.2 million. Construction on the medical facility is on schedule for a spring opening, said Brian Gray, administrative manager for the FHT. "It will be an exciting new year for health care in Harrow and Colchester South," he said. Communication tower at Colchester A 200-foot tower is being erected next to the water treatment plant in the Village of Colchester for Telus. The purpose of the tower is primarily to provide better cell phone communication in the area. "The base consists of about 52 cubic metres of concrete," said Bob Stefansson, a foreman with Masotti Construction Inc., who was working at the site in early January. The tower is expected to be completed soon, depending on weather conditions, Stefansson said. New Harrow doctor Originally, from India, Dr. Pavan Chand has been accredited to work as a family physician in Ontario and has joined the Harrow Family Health Team. "I am delighted to be here," said Dr. Chand, who announced plans for a longterm practice serving families in the Harrow and Colchester South area, an area hit hard by doctor shortages. New president for Harrow Chamber Scott Waters, the dealerowner of Harrow Home Hardware was elected president of the Harrow and pick-up truck, he said. Police said weather was not a factor in the collision and the traffic lights were operating properly.
