Mullin designed the project titled Mojoto Park System. EDHS grad drafts plans for theme park BY DANIEL SCHWAB When Mauri Mullin began designing her dream house three years ago, she felt it could use something special. She added plans for a skating rink and guest house, bleachers and outdoor lights. Her ambitions grew and ideas for a war memorial turned the original house plans into a design for a small park. Last week, after three years of drawing plans and incorporating ideas, Mullin brought her sketches to Essex District High School looking for comments from former students and a teacher. Her drawings for the sprawling, 50-acre park, which she titled Mojoto Park System, focus on such themes as history, sports and healthy lifestyles. The name of the park is a tribute to her two sons Jojo and Thompson. With education at its centre, the park would also feature retail outlets, overnight accommodations and unique attractions, Mullin said. "It's as big as a town," she said. "If visitors spend one day at this park they will know Canadian history." Mullin, a Windsor resident, said she has an Essex County location in mind for the park, but wouldn't give any specifics. "We are the biggest border crossing in North America," she said. "This is a great market to tap." According to the drawings, a fitness track will circle the perimeter of the park. Inside, Mullin said patrons will find a children's health centre, swimming pool, restaurants, a golf course, trading post and many other tourist attractions. For Jana Crawford, an EDHS graduate, "the hands-on approach to history" will work to catch the attention of school kids who would be given the chance to learn outside the classroom. "This area needs a boost as a destination," Crawford said. Mullin said she is currently shopping around for investors to get on board with the project.
