TRAVEL WITH CONFIDENCE WWW,FORSYTHTRAVEL.COM Harrow Chamber of Commerce honours Citizens of the Year BY ANDY COMBER HARROW Recognizing contributions to the community, the Harrow and Colchester South Chamber of Commerce presented three 2006 Citizen of the Year awards, Dec. 20. "We would like to present you with this award for your outstanding support of the community," said Chamber of Commerce Director David Sellick, in presenting the awards to Brian Gray, Mike Munger and Barry Zekelman. All three of the honourees played key roles in the development of the Harrow Family Health Team Centre, which is presently under construction in Harrow. Originally the Chair of the Harrow Health Centre Steering Committee, Brian Gray worked tirelessly to obtain provincial funding for a Family Health Team (FHT) in Harrow, an objective that was achieved with a government announcement in the spring of 2005. "I'm honoured," said Gray, who is currently working as the administrative lead for the Harrow Health Centre. Mike Munger continues to serve as president of the Harrow FHT, working to provide much needed health care facilities to the Harrow area community. "I am humbled. So many thanks are owed to so many," said Munger, speaking of the numerous volunteers and thousands of volunteer hours that went into developing the business and operational plans for the Harrow FHT project. To date, the community has raised $1,030,000 in support of the Harrow FHT. The goal is to raise $1.2 million. CEO of Atlas Tube Inc. in Harrow, Barry Zekelman is well known for his generosity to the Harrow community, supporting numerous community, charity and school activities and programs. "It is a real honour," said Zekelman, who presented a $250,000 cornerstone donation to the Harrow Health Centre from Atlas Tube to launch the community fundraising efforts in June, 2006. The donation inspired further financial support from the community, making it possible to begin construction of the new medical centre, which is expected to open in late 2007. TRAVEL Ltd. The chief administrative officers of each municipality have been presented with reports about a common assets policy, and the board will be meeting with each of them Jan. 23. Schmidt is confident the issue will be resolved in the next few months. "There are still some issues to be worked out but we're a lot closer than we were," he said. The other issues Kehoe outlined at the meeting won't be possible until a common assets policy is worked out, he said. These include a possible restructuring of the supply system , source water protection and master planning. A master plan looking at future capacity requirements was drafted five years ago, and Kehoe said it is necessary to look into creating an updated version. Schmidt agreed, saying the old master plan was based on a period of rapid growth. "Now that it's leveled off, we'll have to look at doing another one," he said. Kehoe said the board will also be looking into the construction of a $4 million water tower on the Albuna Townline in Kingsville. He said the project would have a one million gallon capacity and take about a year to construct. The Union Water Supply System serves the areas of Leamington, Kingsville, Essex and Lakeshore.
