SAVE GROCERY TAPES, CELL PHONES, PRINTER CARTRIDGES ­ Here at Essex Community Services, we accept Zehrs & Sadlers Foodland tapes, used cell phones & used printer cartridges as part of our fundraising efforts. We issue tax receipts for cash donations over $10.00, as we are a non-profit charitable organization. Due to financial cutbacks, donations are especially important at this time, in order to continue to offer our many programs and services to the public, such as the Care-A-Van, Foot Care clinic, Community Information and more. Dec. 15 at 7:30 p.m. Friendship Woodslee Club welcomed 125 guests at their Christmas dinner last Friday evening. Seven "War Brides" ladies who were present were Louise Bastien, Cecilia Burling, Eileen Lebert, Ruby Robertson, Margaret Smith, Eileen Stowe and Betty Wilton. They received several honours plus a token horseshoe - a remembrance of English tradition that many of them included a horseshoe in their wedding bouquets. Also honoured were Mary Cathcart, Joyce Eberle, Ada Martindale, Ellen Myers, Rose Stanley, Mary Tessier, Anneke Thompson, Betty Beleritz, Garrod, Marion Vera Haines, Margaret Plant, Constance Salmons, Edna Slote, Audrey Trepanier and two special WWI brides named Dorothy Chevalier and Blanche Morgan. On behalf of the ladies Ruby Robertson thanked the Friendship Club for inviting and honouring them. Everyone enjoyed singing some of the 40's songs, viewing the great displays of memorabilia and the neat pictures and stories of the ladies. Special thanks to each and everyone who helped to make this a wonderful, memorable evening. The Woodslee Friendship Club's Dec. 4 card party was well attended with Tom Hayes and Dave McMurren taking the prizes for the men. The winning ladies were Evelyn Murray and Joanne McMurren.
