She said the judges had a difficult time determining the winner in some categories. "I live out in the county and have mainly been on the streets in Essex where my family and friends live," Hudak said July 28. "Some of the streets were absolutely gorgeous and I was really impressed. I was also by the Amador impressed Apartments and Orchard Park. At Orchard Park, a woman came out and explained the garden to us and told us that they had a dedication." Hudak said the Communities in Bloom judges were also impressed by Essex. Although the outcome of the competition won't be known until September, Hudak said the judges commented on Essex's gardens and specifically the Maplewood Community Garden. Two residents of the apartment complex created a vegetable garden in September and invited everyone to participate. The residents share the vegetables. "They were especially impressed by that area," Hudak said.
