THURSDAY, MAY 6, 2010 Mother's Day Bird-A-Thon By Denise Paulsen Birdwatching enthusiasts, along with anyone looking to enjoy a two-hour nature walk through Rockwood's Conservation Area, are invited to participate in the seventh annual Mother's Day Bird-a-thon this Sunday morning, starting at 9 a.m. This is a sponsored walk with pledged donations going to S.O.A.R., Songbirds Only Aviation Rehabilitation, where "birding" participants meet at 8:30 a.m. to register for the spring event. A light lunch will be provided. Last year, the Mother's Day nature walk raised $3,600 to support the wildlife facility's goals. In 2009, the facility took in 172 birds, including a Hermit Thrush, Hairy Woodpecker and American Goldfinch. If you're unable to make it to Rockwood - you can participate in the birding event from your favourite birdwatching spot anywhere in Ontario. Fundraising efforts can be donated to support the local avian rehabilitation centre that tries to keep the area filled with the sound of nature's music.
