p.3 The Bay and River Steam Boat, Charlotte, built at the same Shipyard where the Frontenac was built, in the Village of Ernest Town, was launched on Wednesday the 22d instant, with most of her Machinery on board, nearly fitted for operation. The launch was a very favorable one. She moved from the Stocks with an easy, uninterrupted descent into the water, amidst the cheers of a numerous concourse of spectators. In the opinion of good judges, the construction of this elegant Boat does honor to the master builder, Mr. Henry Gildersleave, who was an assistant builder of the Frontenac. On Friday the Charlotte was towed down to Kingston, where, we understand, she will be completed, and ready in a few days to commence running. Those who wish for the prosperity of the Province, especially the inhabitants of the villages, towns, and townships adjacent to the River St. Lawrence and the Bay of Quinte, will doubtless consider the extension of Steam Navigation to waters so well adapted to it, a subject of real congratulation. The destined route of this new Steam Boat seems not likely to interfere with that of the Frontenac, but to accommodate a different range of country. Whether these enterprizes eventually prove profitable or not, to their respective proprietors, they are calculated to promote the public good, by increasing the facilities of passage and transportation. With these views of their tendency, we cordially wish them success.
