The Carquest Acton / Nellis Construction Novice BB Tanners finished their regular reason with a win in Erin, and an exhibition loss to Georgetown?s Novice AE team. The Tanners travelled to Erin on the 7th, and crushed their hosts 6-0. Scoring leader Mitchell Brake led the way with two goals, Jeff Curry had a goal and an as- sist, and defenceman Scott Garvie added two assists. The other goals were scored by Brett Banks, Walter Kirkness and Ryan Dunlevy, with as- sists earned by Josh Tremblay, Gregory Wells, Tyler Christopher, Holden Carachi and Gavin Ragan. In addition to recording his fourth shut-out of the season, goalie Mitchell Christopher also recorded an assist, start- ing off the Tanners first goal with a pass from beside the net. The Tanners hosted the Georgetown Raiders Novice AE team on the 11th, and were nudged 5-4 by the Raid- ers. Acton scored first, but the Raiders came back with four straight to lead 4-1. After the teams exchanged goals to make it 5-2, Acton scored two more to make it close, but could not tie it. Eric Butson and Walter Kirkness scored two goals each, with assists going to Brett Banks, Holden Carachi, Mitchell Brake, Scott Garvie, Dylan Agnew, and Josh Tremblay. The Tanners finished their regular season with a record of 15 wins, five losses and four ties, placing them way ahead of the other BB teams in their league. The Tanners record may be good enough for first place, depending on the results of some remaining games for other teams. The Tanners will face Erin, Elora and Fergus in the OMHA playoffs, the sched- ule is still to be determined. Novice Tanners finish schedule with Erin win MUSCLE STRAIN: Acton House League hockey player Billy Mowat was taken to Georgetown hospital after slam- ming head first into the boards during a Peewee game in Acton Saturday morning. Hockey League on Friday, January 10 saw Team Red shade Team Black 5-4 while Team Blue nudged Team White 2-1. Doni-Lyn Greig and Liz Holmes con- tributed a goal and collected assists (Liz 2) to lead the Red team to its victory with Nadine Balkind, Jennifer Stalmack and Kim Bandy-Bollert bagging a goal each. Derri Kirkpatrick assisted on two goals. Annette Kroezen scored two goals and an assist for the black team while Debbie Evans and Kelly Brown each contributed a goal. Pauline White and Monica Vanhelden each collected an assist. Sharon Austin-Miller and Lesley Booton each scored a single to lead Blue to their 2- 1 decision with Lesley also getting an assist on the Austin-Miller goal. Una Lalande also garnered a helper. Jennifer Osarin put the biscuit in the bas- ket for the White team unassisted. Red and Blue teams nudge Black, White in ladies? hockey Acton Atom 2 Tanners met Fergus Monday night for the first game in the OMHA playoff?s, losing the opener in O/T by 4-3. Fergus opened with a hard shot on the visiting net, but the Tanners fought back to tie the game when Nicholas Eagan passed the puck to Liam Robertson for the Tanners? first goal. Robertson scored the sec- ond goal with the assist awarded to Steven Wolstenholme. Brandyn McCarthy passed the puck to Mat Kutasienski for the Tanners? third goal in the third period. The game went into over- time, but within ten seconds in overtime Fergus put the puck into the visit- ing net for a 4-3 final. Goaltending was again shared by Joseph Drexler and Ben Hess. Lose in O/T to Fergus The Denny?s Atom Tan- ners finished their regular season with a convincing win against likely playoff opponent Fergus, and a loss to Orangeville. The Tanners travelled to Fergus on the 9th, and beat the Highland- ers 3-1. Acton will meet Fergus in the second round of the OMHA playoffs, if they can get past Elora in the first round. Fergus scored first against Jesse Harris just two minutes into the game, but he shut them out from then on, as did Colton Wiens who shut them out for the second half. Nathan Bennett countered for Acton halfway through the first, from Mitchell Webster and Roger Kirkness. The game remained tied until the third, when Brandon Masini scored the winner from Josh McDonell, then assisted on the insur- ance goal by Jesse Spurrell. After the game Jesse Spurrell and the other play- ers celebrated Garret Kri?s eleventh birthday with a birthday cake. Jesse Spurrell scored a goal against Orangeville on a nice passing play with Josh McDonell. It was the eighth straight game with a point for team scoring leader McDonell, giving him 19 goals and 23 assists so far. The team finished the regu- lar season with a record of ten wins, 13 losses and a tie. Best three of five playoffs versus Elora start at home on Tuesday the 14th at 7pm, in Elora on Saturday the 18th and back home to Elora on Sunday the 19th at 12:50.
