On his original grave marker, it also records 1885 as his year of birth. Currently, no church records can be located to determine an exact date of birth. Mile’s next of kin recorded in the War Graves Registry are two sisters, Jela and Anna Hecimovich living in Selo Bukovoc, Persuic, Austria. On the original grave marker of Mile it details that he was from the Village Bukovac, Municipality PeruSié. This location is the village of Bukovac Perusiéki in the muncipality of PeruSié in present day Croatia. Research has shown that the surname He¢imovi¢ is still prominent in the village. Mile arrived in Canada in June of 1914, into the district of Yale- Cariboo in 1915 and to Vernon in June of 1916. Reviewing records from Library and Archives Canada and the National Archives and Records Administration uncovered a number of immigration records for a Mile He¢imovié / E¢imovié. The most likely record is one detailing the arrival of a Mile Hecimovic into the Port of Baltimore, Maryland in August of 1909 on the ship Chemnitz that departed from Bremen, Germany. This is the only record for a Mile Hecimovic that was born around 1885 and originated from Perusié. No record for Mile He¢imovié / E¢imovié or Mike Lachin was found in the 1910 United States Federal Census. Reviewing border crossing records in and around 1914 revealed a crossing from the United States to Canada of Mike Lachin in August of 1914. Destination was listed as Port Alberni, British Columbia with the place of origin being Goldfield, Nevada. His next of kin recorded on the document is a sister Annie Lachin living in Austria.
