- The Copyright Term Extension Act, sometimes referred to as the Sonny Bono Act/Mickey Mouse Protection Act, was passed in the US. This extended copyright by 20 years. All works that were supposed to be released into the public domain in 1998 would enter the public domain in 2018 instead.
