The resentation coincided ith `Anti-Smoking Week' nd was titled `Hocus ocus ­ Vanishing moking'. Grade 4 students had the pportunity to gain valuble information and facts bout the dangers of smokng, while also experiencng a variety of marvelous agic tricks executed by he main character of the resentation ­ a magician hose goal was to vanish moking! Student voluneers particularly enjoyed eing integral parts of hese `magic tricks' perormed on stage. All in all, he morning was both nformative and highly ntertaining. A special thank you goes ut to all of the parent/community volunteers who took time from their busy schedules to join the Grade 4's. HNS would like to extend our congratulations and best wishes to Mrs. St. Pierre ­ the school vice L.A. Desmarais School. The school community is excited about this new practised keeping the beat through various songs with various instruments. Beautiful music, as created by students in Grade 1L/M, could be heard throughout the Primary hallway. Great job, mini-Mozarts! The Grade 1's have also been learning about the various dynamics of music through action songs. ­ students practised their singing while performing actions to the songs `Johnny One Hammer' (emphasizing beat) and `The Grand Old Duke of York' (emphasizing tempo). School News Happy New Year! Colchester North students are back and hard at work once again. Our basketball season has begun and the teams are busy demonstrating their skills on the court. Last Wednesday the senior girls' basketball team played their first league game of the season. Team spirit and effort helped to win this game. The following night the girls played against A.V. Graham but despite their hard work they came up short in their quest for a win. The Grade 1's at Holy Name School have also been learning about the various dynamics of music. Kindergarten registration is scheduled from Monday, Feb. 12 through Friday, Feb. 23. Colchester will be having an Open House on Tuesday, Feb. 13. Miss Hawco's grade one class has been working on writing a class book entitled, "What Makes Us Happy". Here are a few excerpts: Happiness is skating with my family ­ Tatjana Happiness is driving to school with my dad ­ Kennedy Happiness is swimming in my backyard ­ Braydon principal. As of Jan. 29, Mrs. St. Pierre will be `wearing a new hat' as the acting principal of St. John the Evangelist School in Woodslee. Mrs. St. Pierre has made quite an impression on both staff and students at HNS and will definitely be missed. With Mrs. St. Pierre's departure, we welcome Ms. Casalena as our new vice principal. Ms. Casalena joins us from addition to the HNS staff and look forward to working with Ms. Casalena. In classroom news ... students in Grade 1L/M have been experimenting with beat and rhythm in their study of music. Students were eager to try out the various instruments at their disposal ­ including triangles, sticks, tambourines, drums, bells, and others!
