Wednesday, December 6, 2006 · Page 20 Bantam A Essex Source for Sports Game 1 / Wheatley The Ravens were in Leamington this weekend for the Grandpa Kirk, Jerry Brooks, Fred Epplett Tournament. Our first game was Thursday night against Riverside with Essex five players short. The game started off on a positive foot when Essex's Dan Bacon started the scoring off with an assist from Kyle McCamon and AP player Danny Vivier. Early in the second Bacon picked up the puck at the blue line (assists to Quinlan and Garon) and walked in to give Essex a 20 edge. At about this time, the gates to the penalty box opened up. This was nothing short of brutal. Essex played two men short for about 10 minutes of the second period. There were too many to fit in the box. From the audience's perspective there were some very bad calls as was confirmed by some of the Riverside supporters. By the end of the second it was tied at 2-2. The third period did not start off much better, allowing Riverside to make it 3-2 on the last 5-on-3 of the game. Goalie Chris Zelko was nothing short of spectacular in net during this mess. Game 2 / Wheatley The Ravens' second game was against Caledonia. We needed a victory to be able to move forward in the quarterfinals. Our boys were a little sluggish off the start, likely due to the 7 a.m. start. Caledonia got on the board first with 4:37 left in the first. The Ravens woke up in the second and played some great hockey that paid off in spades. Between 3:52 and 1:03 left in the second the Ravens changed the tide by putting in four goals. Goals went to Quinlan assisted by Woltz, Bacon assisted by Woltz, Durocher assisted by Fournier, and Sauve assisted by Fournier. Caledonia fought back, getting two in the third. Final score 4-3 for Essex. Great netminding by Sean Bear. Game 3 / Heinz We all enjoy watching a game at the Heinz arena and we were not disappointed. The Ravens and Kingsville both needed a victory to move forward into the finals. A shutout would pretty much clinch the spot from the extra point awarded. The tempo of the game was a bit quicker than game 2, and the Ravens stepped up to meet the challenge. A major break came when Kingsville attempted to clear the puck through cen- tre ice with only one man back. Quinlan intercepted and walked in unchallenged to snipe the left blocker side with a quick wrist shot. Nick Diemer put the next goal on the board for Essex. It was an amazing sight to see Nick carrying two Kingsville players through the left face-off circle before finally getting off a vertical shot near the top of the slot. Woltz then skated through the Kingsville lineup to score short handed. The final Essex goal came from Jordan Miller a beautiful line drive through some busy traffic from a pass from Quinlan. Chris Zelko came up with our first shutout of the tournament. Final score 4-0 Essex. On to the finals! Game 4 / Unico The Ravens finished fourth in points, giving them another shot at Riverside. This was to be another early game 8 a.m. The first period was uneventful. The scoreboard started to light up about seven minutes into the second when Riverside capitalized on a 3-on-5 putting Essex in the hole 1-0. With 4:13 remaining, Bacon sent a pass to Quinlan to tie the game. Riverside responded with 2:25 left, followed by Woltz for Essex (1:09 remaining) to end the second 2-2. The game winner came from Brit Garon six minutes into the third assisted by AP'd player $3000 SUPER JACKPOT EVERY SESSION $ 3 GIANT $5,500 BINGO! Our clincher came two minutes before the end when Nick Fournier assisted by Brit Garron popped an empty netter from the red line. Semi Finals Game 5 As expected, game 5 was the toughest for the Ravens. We were short five players once again due to other commitments. Niagara-onthe-Lake was undefeated coming in to this game and Essex was determined to be victorious. Both teams played hard, kept penalties to a minimum and had a great work ethic the entire game. NOL scored five minutes into the first period while on a 5-4 powerplay. Essex came back three minutes into the second to tie it up on a 3-2 rush. Bacon and Quinlan set up McCamon with a backhand at the top of the slot. About 2:30 later NOL made it 2-1. The Essex work ethic would again prevail when Bacon and McCamon came out of the corner with the puck. Another pretty goal as McCamon, tackled to the ground, managed to roof a backhander. The game likely would have been clinched when Woltz and Quinlan set up McCamon for a third goal which was denied. Spectators behind the net later confirmed that this one was in, but the referees had a difference of opinion. Game 5 would eventually go into overtime with Essex on a short-lived 5 on 4 powerplay. Then it happened - 4:54 left in overtime, NOL sent a puck past the Essex defence deep into the end zone and were able to capitalize to take the victory 3-2. This was certainly one of the most enjoyable games we watched this weekend as the Ravens continue to gel into an excellent team. Leamington put on a class act tournament, which was very enjoyable to watch. Thanks to AP players Derek and Danny Vivier. Great netminding by Chris Zelko and Sean Bear. The Ravens play Tuesday in Tecumseh, Friday in Essex and Saturday in Riverside. Atom A Forest Machine CONTINUED FROM PAGE 18 Two minutes later, the combination of Salty to Jarvis for his second goal of the game made it 4-0 Ravens. A'burg's offence started to pick it up. Playing with desperation they got a breakaway, but with Kyle "The Brickwall" Hill in net they were denied. At the six-minute mark of the second, it was the changing of the guard for Essex. Josh Myers was put to the test but to no avail. The action started to get chippy and, drawing some penalties, took on some four-on-four play, which gave Huddy and Rickeard lots of open ice to skate with. Going into the third, the action continued with Santarossa starting a rush into the Stars zone. It was Fuerthy to Salty to Huddy who slammed it home to make it 5-0 Essex. This Ravens team was flying. Langer to Jarvis to Zanier was a force that was just too much for the Stars, not to mention the defence of Jeff Miller and A.J. Market who continued to help guard our end. Time was running out and the pressure mounted as a nevergive-up A'burg Stars slid one in with 38 seconds left in the game. Final score 5-1 Essex. Thanks to the coaching staff of Matt Shepley, Terry Teskey and Rob Santarossa for a great game, and to our sponsor Forest Machine. Atom AE Ram Contract Carriers Friday night the Ravens had their second meeting of the year with Tecumseh. The last time they played them they were brutally beat but with all of the improvements the team has made they were able to give a good fight. In the first period Gerard Busko put us on the scoreboard with an assist from Alec Robillard. Tecumseh scored two goals in this period. Into the second period Alec fired the puck from the point and tied up the game. The third period was very exciting, down by three points Tyler St. Pierre, Zack Prentice and Gerard Busko put it to Tecumseh. Tyler socred two goals in one shift with assists from his partners. With a lot of hard work and determination the Ravens played an awesome game with a final score of 6-4 Tecumseh. Thanks to AP Travis Ross for helping us out. DIVORCE... Separation Agreements, Custody, Saturday the Ravens played Amherstburg who again threw a beating on us in our first meeting with them. They were able to play a good defensive game although they were missing two players and two players were injured in the game. Thanks to AP goalie Rod Summerfield for stepping up when Kane was hurt. The final score of this game was 4-1 with the only goal scored by Carter Sherk. They will face Amherstburg again this Friday at home at 7 p.m. Sunday they faced Belle River. Although the team has made some major improvements, we were not able to score any goals on Belle River. The game was all about the defense and anything that could be done to shut down Belle River. All of the players are working hard and showing awesome sportsmanship which was pointed out by the opposing team's parents. This is what proves the Ravens Atom AE is an awesome team. · Line Prizes of · $2000 Jackpot every session $125and $225 · $ 6 PER BOOK · Play $US, WIN $US Visitation, Spousal Support, Child Support, Marriage Cohabitation Agreements, Property Division including business assets & pensions.
