Wednesday, August 16, 2006 · Page 7 Farm Twilight Tour announced The Essex Soil and Crop Improvement Association will be holding their Annual Farm Twilight Tour this year at Tiessen Acres, home of the 2005 Conservation Farm Award winners. This year's event will be focussing on modern technologies and the equipment being used at farming operation all across North America. Live demonstrations and informative insight will be available from some of the area's leading companies in innovative and progressive farming machinery, GPS technology and GPS equipment. Representatives from Kentown, HJV Precision, Setterington's and AutoFarm/Novariant will be on hand to demonstrate and answer any of your machinery, software and equipment questions. See how the latest system can help farmers operate with precision and ease. Those interested will have the opportunity to take a ride in a new John Deere tractor without using the steering wheel or drive a tractor up a preset line, demonstrating the precise pulling of beds insuring continuity with drainage tiles, fertilizer application, etc. As always, representatives and specialists from OMAFRA will be present offering their expertise and perspective. The event is on Saturday, September 9 beginning at 2 p.m. at Tiessen Acres, the home farm of Martin and Paul Tiessen, 1316 County Road 20 in Leamington, two miles east of Point Pelee Drive. The day will end with conversation and a barbecue. Admission is free and everyone is welcome. Essex County Farm Hiker Tour The Essex County Federation of Agriculture's 13th Annual Farm Hiker Tour is scheduled for Sunday, September 17 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The tour has seven stops from Amherstburg through Harrow along the shores of Lake Erie. This is a free, self-guided driving tour of farms and other agri-food operations in Essex County.
