By Nathan Howes OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF The saying goes, If you love something, set it free. If it comes back, its yours. If it doesnt, it wasnt meant to be. Oakville resi- dent Jamie Macmillan had to wait 35 years for the love of his life. While some people spend their whole lives searching for true love, Macmillan knew by the time he was seven, he had found his forever mate. It just so happened that Bethany Fleming had moved to Oakville the same year. Bethany and I met some 35 years ago in our Grade 3 classroom. I fell in love with her immediately and remember fantasizing at that early age about our wedding, said Macmillan. There is still a tree on our old school property with our initials carved in it encir- cled by a heart. As Fleming and Macmillan grew older, the friendship between them flourished, so the chance of a love connection was fading. The two had discussed the possibility during that time, but never acted on it. We never had a romantic relationship despite discussing it many times over the years; instead we shared and cherished a friendship that is rarely shared between two people, said Macmillan. I think because it was such a special friendship we were both scared of the possibil- ity of ruining it by taking it to that next level. DON'T GET HOOKED ON GIMMICKS! Police said the 40-year-old Oakville woman was walking on Bronte Street at around 11 p.m. when she observed a beige vehicle pull into a parking lot just north of her. When the woman passed the vehicle, the man who had gotten out of it appeared to be tying his shoe. Moments later the woman heard someone running up behind her, but was knocked to the ground before she could turn.
