More than 500 proud parents, principals, trustees, teachers and school administrators will help recognize outstanding student achievement at this event that will honour 97 elementary and high school students who possess exceptional qualities in at least two of the fol- lowing areas: academic, vocational and athletic fi elds, self-improvement, community work, citizenship and student leadership, or specifi c criteria that refl ects the schools unique priorities. Wayne Joudrie, Director of Education for the Hal- ton District School Board, said the event recognizes the outstanding achievements of the young people in Halton schools. Parents, teachers, and community members all con- tribute to helping these students achieve in various endeavors. We welcome this opportunity to acknow- ledge their successes, Joudrie said in a press release. The awardees include: James Bursa Robert Little Public School Bursa exemplifi es all the qualities of a true Student of Excellence. Described as a very caring young man who never hesitates to help others, Bursa quietly and consistently displays outstanding leadership qualities in the school and the community. He models a high level of commitment to the numerous extra curricular activities. Jordan Lenz McKenzie- Smith Bennett Lenz is a student who represents all round ex- cellence at MSB. Her involvement in co-cur- riculars - sports, band, student council, clubs and teams - is deep and wide. She is exemplary in her academic achievement. She is a leader by example and a great role model for other students. Larissa Peck Brookville Peck is a member of Student Forum Executive, which provides the voice of students in the school and at School Council meetings. A member of both the volleyball and basketball teams, as well as being a member of our school band and Eco Council, Peck is mo- tivated to succeed and this is refl ected in her strong academic achievements and extra-curricular pursuits. Beth Rohde Limehouse Public School Rohde is described as a quiet leader, who possesses outstanding interpersonal skills. Her teachers said she is a ma- ture, self-directed and dedicated student who is active in all aspects of school life. Rohde strives to achieve excellence in the classroom, in the gym, and with her volunteer roles throughout the school. Kalsey Smith Acton District High School Smith is a Grade 12 stu- dent, who has maintained her Honours standing aca- demically throughout her high school career. An enthusiastic and talented athlete, she has been a key player for Bearcat teams in volleyball, basketball, track & fi eld and badminton. She also found time to swim for the Acton Aqua Ducks. In school, Smith acted as an effective Peer Tutor, and in the community, she has volunteered time in her church nursery. The Halton District Catholic School Board held its 22nd annual Sharing the Spirit student excellence awards on April 26 in Georgetown. The local recipients include: Joshua Beaune St. Joseph School Beaune was recognized because he consistently displays the qualities that the staff of St. Josephs strive to foster includ- ing a willingness to help peers and compassion for others - both testaments to his faith. Beaune leads by example through his respectful posi- tive attitude, excellent academic results and leadership in environmental and school safety issues. Rose Schmidt Christ the King Secondary School Schmidt, of Limehouse, is an honours student who believes in the beauty and responsibility of sharing the Word of the Lord with her peers, teachers and family. Her involvement at Holy Cross in the choir and as an Extraordinary Minister and her school involvement in the Pro-Life club and the Social Justice committee at Christ the King model this faith in action.
