stomach pit excitement of pre race event the cold wait for your turn and the wonderful wonderful feeling of esprit corps camarodcrte with newly made friendships and the giddy relief of completing event and waiting to see how ones teammates fared A new enthusiasm in inter mural athletics is fast developing in the Wellington County public schools these days and the most important one factor for the sudden injection of keen competition has been he gymnasium with its physical education program which is now part of every standard public school curriculum The last few years has put the larger cities and town elementary school athletics into a new status but more recently the rural area schools have also been given their considerations and with the addition of indoor a whole new league has been created No longer will the ugh school athletes be selected primarily from the lists of city students who have been raised on sport programs and outdoor recreational facilities today new crop of hopefuls could easily be the lad on the next farm or the paperboy in any small town Everyone is now having his chance to what sports and athletics arc all about Last Friday activities at Brisbane public school grounds could be just the beginning of such annual organized competitions which might eventually include even more rural elementary schools The June event was hosted by the school with special mention for a well run yd dash in which her and coordination were superb taking her across the tape will ahead of the rest of the field Jeff also showed spectacular form for the Rockwood team as well as Laurie Hanson and pint size Paul who took second place in a race wherein the competitors looked three times bigger Jeff Gardiner and Mike Hanson were two other local athletes who made the standing more contentious Teachers principals and students were there together participating keeping scores organizing events holding ropes while parents earned out their important roles as spectators lop dogs for the final standing was Brisbane with points Centennial was second with 214 Erin Union ran up a liurd 207 score and Ospnngc placed fourth with Public Schools 162 points gave the fifth position and Hillsburg made 86 for sixth place Next year it is hopeful that at least one more school will be contending for honors when Public enters he race Well it all over now including running The first half of the public school gymnastic program has come to an end with many students progressing from the of elementary into the broader prospect of high school participation It is hopeful that this summer building schedule for the Wellington County School Board will include two more gymnasiums in this area so that the Brisbane and the Ross McKay School in will be able to house teams to
